Older Adult Services

At the Center for Music Therapy and Wellness, we want to help you through difficult times.

Music is an excellent way to help your loved ones feel connected, engaged and supported.

We offer in-person sessions  for individuals and groups in all stages of aging.

What are the benefits of music therapy for senior care?

Music therapy services are effective with older adults who have deficits in the following areas:

  • Dementia

  • Alzheimer's

  • Parkinson's

  • Wellness

  • Hospice

Research and clinical examples provide further validity to the effectiveness of music therapy in this population. As a sensory stimulation, music elicits responses due to the familiarity, predictability, and feelings of security

associated with it.  Therapeutic activities include music-prompted reminiscence, therapeutic singing, music-assisted movement, and guided relaxation.

Furthermore, using "patient-preferred music" provides a deeper connection to the music presented. Presenting this music creates full-brain stimulation, which aids in the recall of memories, an increased release of dopamine, a decrease in blood pressure, and reality orientation.

“Meeting individually and within a group, elder clients express themselves and recall the memories that music sparks and stimulates. By listening to live music and being involved in live music-making experiences, a greater quality of life is possible.”

"Music therapy has been proven to help some seniors restore and maintain their health, as well as help them recall memories and fight depression."
